One Piece - Author: Gwen

One Piece is quite popular worldwide, yet it isn’t so well known in this school. It is both an anime and manga, and it’s action-packed to the fullest! Also, it is pirate themed!
One Piece begins with a barrel. A barrel is floating in the ocean, alone and with no evidence of a shipwreck. Soon, it is picked up by a curious passenger ship, a galleon transporting rich nobles. The crewmen that salvage this barrel remark on its weight. They dump it in the food stores, which is NOT such a good idea.
Almost immediately, cannon fire rings in the air and a caravel appears with nasty intentions. On its mast flies a black flag. The helm is taken by a rather obese female captain. On its mainsail is the pirate mark of Alvida, “the most beautiful woman to sail the seas.”
The galleon is grappled by the pirate caravel. Almost immediately, the crew is demoralized. The pirates search the stowage areas and find a remarkably heavy barrel in the food stores.  When they pick up the barrel, they find a wacky surprise inside. It causes one of the pirates to faint, startled.
The lid pops open, and out comes a boy with a straw hat and a scar under his left eye. The pirates flee, but more from shock than fear.  Then the chore boy, Coby, rounds the corner and enters the room. He is shocked by the sudden stranger in there. He asks, “Who ARE you??”
The straw-hat boy turns around and grins. “I’m Luffy! The man who’s going to be the King of the Pirates! Gosh, I sure am hungry!”
So, that is how One Piece starts. With over 700 episodes, an amazing and ridiculously funny story, characters with such vivid personalities they almost come alive, and billions of fans, there is someone in every country it shows in who would recommend it!

“Hero? No! We’re pirates! I love heroes but I don’t want to be one! Do you know what heroes are? Say there is a chunk of meat. Pirates will have a banquet and eat it, but heroes will share it with other people. I want all the meat!”- Luffy
