Has Hubie Halloween Saved 2020? by Mass Media student Janessa L

    On October 7, 2020, the newest halloween movie called, “Hubie Halloween”, was released onto Netflix. Many people longed and waited for this movie to come out knowing that so many amazing and familiar actors would be featured. Actors varied, from the main character, Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Noah Schnapp, Peyton List and many other familiar faces. The movie is about the main character, Hubie Dubois played by Adam Sandler, who is a halloween lover and has to protect his town from a kidnapper. Even though he would always get bullied, made fun of and has had pranks being pulled on him, he always had a positive attitude and had his eye on a woman! Violet Valentine who is played by Julie Bowen.

    This movie was supposed to be the saving of our crazy and difficult 2020. But some others had different points of view and opinions on this movie. Today, some family members were asked a couple of questions on their opinion of the movie and if it was really worth watching. Hubie Dubois, played by Adam Sandler is like any other person in Salem, Massachusetts, except he loves halloween. He grew up being bullied and was made fun of because of his name and how he talks. He also has always seemed to have a crush on Violet Valentine played by Julie Bowen. Both actors have played roles in many known movies and shows. Adam Sandler was in movies you may know like, “Grown-ups”, “Bedtime Stories”, “The Waterboy”, “Murder Mystery” and so many more! Adam Sandler actually holds one of the most profitable contracts with Netflix. Julie Bowen has played in movies you may know like, “Dawson's Creek” and “Happy Gilmore”.

    The filming actually started in July of 2019 and was released in early October of 2020, just in time for Halloween. As said before Hubie was bullied alot for the way he would talk and act. But still he was positive and tried to not let the negativity get to him. Mysterious disappearances had been happening especially to people who had been making fun of Hubie for a very long time. After a long investigation and Hubie being on the lookout for the person responsible for these disappearances. At the end of the movie, they found out that it was that Hubie’s mother was actually responsible for these disappearances and she had planned to light them on fire for making fun of her son Hubie! Hubie ended up saving their lives even though they treated him so wrongly. Hubie ended up winning over Violet and they got married! Hubie’s life became perfect at the end. He also became Mayor for his positive attitude and dedication to Salem!

    Some of my family members were interviewed today. One person had a strong opinion on why they didn’t like the movie as much and another person personally liked the movie.First, Dinora, my mother, wasn't a big fan of the movie and here is what she said. “In my opinion, I thought the movie was a bit cheesy. I didn’t like the fact that Hubie was constantly bullied for the way he talked and how he acted. I don’t believe it’s worth the while. Although they used several different familiar actors in the movie, it doesn’t live up to my expectations and could have been a bit better.” The second person is my father. He said, “I liked the movie because of all the familiar actors and actresses I had recognized. Adam Sandler is known as a very goofy person and I think he played this role of Hubie very well. One of my favorite parts included his thermos. The thermos was able to turn into so many different things to help him through different situations. The thermos turned into a flashlight, shovel, umbrella, megaphone and even a flare gun. I think the megaphone was my favorite.” As you can see, they both have strong opinions on what they think about this movie.

    Hubie Halloween has it’s good and bad opinions. There were so many great and familiar actors but also it could have been not the expectations people were looking for. Do you think it's worth watching? Did “Hubie Halloween” really save 2020?!
