A Humble Hero: Teacher Appreciation Week by 8th grade Mass Media student Cooper

Besides your family, who do you know that plays an important role in your life?  Who do you know that inspires you to become successful in life, in a career, or even a good citizen?  A teacher.  By definition a teacher is a person who provides education for students.  I think a teacher is much more than that!

This week, from May 3 rd to May 7 th extra appreciation should be shown to your teacher or teachers for how hard they work, especially during this difficult time. It is very important to make clear just how much a teacher impacts everyone around them.  Of course most teachers are there to help academically, but most extend themselves well beyond that.  Many help to keep smiles on their students faces, build confidence, mentor, coach, etc. Without the help of our teachers, many students wouldn't be who they are today.

Academics can be one of the most tricky areas to support.  Many students have different ways of learning, which requires different methods of teaching to help students better understand material.  It takes a lot of time and patience for teachers to assist their students and help them achieve their full potential. Many students learn about themselves through their teachers. Teachers believe in us more than we do ourselves.  Oftentimes, students reflect and appreciate just how much a teacher does for them.

Teachers are often thought of as mentors, tutors, coaches, and trainers.  Many students learn responsibility, work ethic, punctuality, and many other life lessons needed to help succeed as adults. These qualities are priceless and prepare students for life beyond tests. Great teachers always help their students reach their full potential.  It's important that students return the effort, and show their gratitude. With everyone being stuck inside due to the pandemic, teachers have been providing students with moral support and trying to put smiles on their faces.

Overall, teachers should be noticed for how hard they work and all the effort they put into their students. Academically, mentally, emotionally, and socially, teachers have put forth their best effort keeping their students interested in learning and open their minds to new things.  At times we all take for granted the things our teachers do for us.  Some teachers were born to teach while others felt “the calling” through life experience.  The world is always changing and sometimes it does overnight. Take a moment out of your day to say thanks and celebrate “Teachers Appreciation” week.  Be humble and kind.  A simple thank you goes a long way.  Have you thanked a teacher today?
